Making Friends Is Easier Than You Think!

Feel a bit like Paul Rudd’s character in “I Love You, Man”? Having a hard time making friends? Not sure how to go about beginning the process of making new friends? Trust me, it’s not as hard as you might think!

Let’s get a few things in order before we begin. This is vital, as if you don’t grant these basic assumptions, you will make it unnecessarily hard on yourself when you begin to make new friends.

First, friendships take work. That’s right, work! There is a give and a take relationship which exists in most true friendships, and one needs to understand this. Secondly, it’s OK if you ask someone out and he or she declines. More often than not, that person simply didn’t have the time or had prior arrangements. Don’t take it personally, it happens to all of us.

Now that we have that cleared up, we can begin! One of the absolute best ways in which you can enlarge your social circle is by doing either of these; joining an activity which you aren’t good at (such as joining a Toastmasters club) or by joining an activity which you are good at (say, a recreational basketball league).

Forget the bars and clubs for now. Generally, they are pretty hit and miss and it’s pretty tough to get enough of a conversation going to turn just meeting someone into a new friendship (although that can happen as well).

For total beginners, it might be better to begin with going to an event in which you already know a bit about beforehand, as it allows you to be in an environment where you are comfortable and know a lot about the subject and thus, you’ll have an easier time talking.

However, joining something which you’ve always been curious about, or you just want to give it a shot, isn’t a bad idea either. You’ll get to experience a new and be around people who will enjoy helping you out.

Discover the New Treatments for ADHD

I found it utterly amazing when I read about the new treatments for ADHD. Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder is one of the disorders that has long been diagnosed and treated but there is still so much to learn about this disorder. For example, the main cause of ADHD is still unknown but the main culprit remains to be an imbalance in the levels of two neurotransmitters, namely dopamine and norepinephrine. So, of course, the main treatment of ADHD involved the adjustment of neurotransmitters to within their normal levels in order to alleviate the symptoms of ADHD. This is what Ritalin and other stimulants do. Of course, other treatments are aimed at changing the lifestyle and behaviour of both the child and his family. There are still more research going on to find out new treatments for ADHD that are cost-efficient, effective and safe for use. One of these new treatments for ADHD is Neurotherapy.
Researches since the 1960′s have shown that neurotherapy proves beneficial to patients because they are taught to restore auto-regulation by the brain through retraining brainwave patterns. There are a lot of clinics worldwide who practice neurotherapy for the permanent remediation of ADHD cases without using any pharmaceutical agents at all.
What is neurotherapy anyway? It is a computer-based technique that is aimed at retraining the brain to normalize the production of electrical activity patterns or brain waves. It is proven to be effective for about eighty percent of the cases of ADHD. Studies show that the children with ADHD have increased slow wave Theta activity and a decreased fast wave Beta activity compared to a control group. During a session of neurotherapy, a screen shows the number of beta and theta waves that are being produced. The patient is rewarded for producing more Beta waves and less Theta wave.
Improvement in the ratio of theta and beta waves show that there is also an improvement in attention and impulsivity. Hyperactivity and impulsivity decreased while there was an increase in cognitive skills and attention. These new treatments for ADHD also led to higher IQ scores. Through neurotherapy, patients were able to reduce the use of stimulants or even be taken off the medication by the end of the treatment. The effects of neurotherapy are permanent in reducing the symptoms of ADHD.
Again, new treatments for ADHD are aimed at searching for a permanent solution to the problems and issues regarding ADHD. They want to stop the problem and allow the children a chance to grow as normally as possible and for them to do as well as they can in school. They give them a fair chance at a normal life. Also, the use of stimulant medication was decreased or stopped which means that there is a lesser possibility of abuse of these substances.
Wasn’t that incredible? These new treatments for ADHD are actually safe, efficient and they bring about results that last. These aren’t just band-aid methods for treating ADHD but they give long term relief from the symptoms of ADHD.
